On August 10, 2021, during the regular session presided over by the Hon. Alfredo Pablo “Alf” Ortega, City Vice Mayor, the Sanggunian members present approved a resolution, which expressed their collective commitment to integrate the City of San Fernando’s Health System into the La Union Province-Wide Healthy System. The integration is pursuant to Republic Act No. 11223, the Universal Health Care Act (UHC Act).

The objective of the UHC Act is to improve the performance of the nation’s health system by ensuring that all Filipinos have equitable access to quality and affordable health care goods and services.

Health and wellness is a major advocacy of the Sangguniang Panlungsod. Thus, the Sanggunian deems it necessary to link and harmonize the health system of the City of San Fernando with the La Union PWHS. The move is expected to further promote the health and wellness of the people of the City of San Fernando; and to raise people’s awareness that they need to work together, help each other, and care for each other.
