The Committee on Cooperatives, chaired by Hon. Rodolfo Abat, spearheaded a one-day seminar and open forum on Policy Development last November 20, 2023 at J&V Resort, Barangay Sevilla, City of San Fernando, La Union.

The event was participated by officers and members of the different registered cooperatives in the city. Dr. Josefina Bitonio, former Regional Director of the Cooperative Development Authority and currently an Associate Professor of the Lyceum Northwestern University was the invited guest speaker.

Vice Mayor Alfredo Pablo “ALF” Ortega delivered his inspirational message while Hon. Quintin Balcita, Jr. gave the closing message.

Vice Mayor Alfredo Pablo Ortega expressed his gratitude to the Committee on Cooperatives for initiating a Seminar and Open Forum for the members of the registered cooperatives in the city. He also reminded the participants to focus and achieve the goals of their respective cooperatives and reminded them to be steadfast if there are challenges that may come their way. He asked the participants to work closely with the Office of the Sangguniang Panlungsod and assured them that the Council is always ready to extend help and assistance to them.

The seminar ended with participants having gained knowledge on Policy Development. They were also able to present their concerns and issues during the Open Forum.

Moving forward, the Committee on Cooperatives envisions to prioritize the issues and concerns of the different cooperatives and to craft timely legislation to improve their operations and services.
